To date, the FDA has received at least 60 reports of Stryker hip problems and adverse incidents related to the Rejuvenate and the ABGII. Reportedly, some doctors have contacted the company directly because of their deep concerns regarding the products. In many cases, the devices were failing within a year to 18 months after implantation.
In April 2012, the company sent an “Urgent Field Safety Notice” to doctors and distributors warning them of the risks of metallosis from the Rejuvenate system. In May, Health Canada announced a Stryker Rejuvenate recall, reportedly for the purpose of updating surgical instructions. All these events led to the eventual July 6, 2012 Stryker recall of the Rejuvenate and ABGII modular-neck systems.
